From announcing its first mixed reality headset to unveiling iOS 17, WWDC 2023 is speculated to be one of the biggest tech events of this year.
Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled to happen on June 5, is going to be its biggest one in years. After all, Cupertino is going to use this year’s developer conference as the launch pad for Reality Pro: a mixed-reality headset which has been in the works for at least seven years. But not just the headset, Apple could also unveil a brand new 15-inch MacBook Air alongside software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.
Here is everything that Apple is expected to announce at WWDC 2023.
How to watch Apple’s WWDC 2023
The 2023 edition of WWDC will be an in-person conference and will also be live-streamed on Apple’s official website, YouTube, Twitter, and other social media platforms. The event will take place on June 5 at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Apple Park, California. The presentation will commence at 10:30 PM IST, and Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, is likely to host the keynote.
iPhone, Mac will get updated software
As per the WWDC tradition, Apple will showcase the next-generation software at its annual developers’ conference. This time around, iOS 17, the next iteration of the iPhone software, is likely to include several good-to-have features, including support for third-party app stores, a redesigned control panel, an improved multi-tasking experience, and more.
Similarly, with iPadOS 17, Apple is likely to introduce several productivity-focused features and services. watchOS 10 is also speculated to get a much-needed overhaul, including a widget-based user experience. Lastly, Apple will also showcase tvOS 17 and the next generation of macOS at WWDC 2023.
Focus will be on the Reality Pro headset
When it comes to hardware products, Apple is likely to showcase its much-anticipated mixed reality headset—Reality Pro, powered by xrOS. This headset is speculated to offer both virtual and augmented reality experiences and is expected to be powered by custom Apple Silicon like most of its products.
According to the latest reports by Mark Gurman, the headset is touted to get its power via an external battery pack, similar to the MagSafe battery pack. It is also speculated to feature two high-resolution (possibly 4K) OLED screens to deliver an immersive experience.
The headset is said to support iPad apps and is likely to come with a new user interface optimized for the virtual reality experience. Apple’s first mixed reality headset is speculated to cost around $3000 or Rs 2,40,000.
15-inch MacBook Air is also expected
The MacBook Air lineup of notebooks is known for being compact and light, and the company is said to be bringing the same to a slightly larger form factor by announcing a 15-inch MacBook Air, powered by an Apple M2 processor.
This could be one of the lightest 15-inch notebooks from Apple. In terms of design, the larger MacBook Air is likely to mimic the 13-inch MacBook Air and is expected to offer a high-resolution display, albeit with just a 60Hz refresh rate.
The company is also speculated to introduce the next-generation iMac at WWDC 2023, which is expected to look similar to the current lineup but with spec improvements and is also reported to be the first computer to make use of third-gen M3 Apple Silicon fabbed using TSMC’s 3nm process. Lastly, the company is expected to announce the most powerful Apple Silicon-powered product — Mac Pro to complete the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon-based Macs.
