Samsung’s might unveil its upcoming mixed reality headset, codenamed ‘Infinite’, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Galaxy Z Fold6.

In August, a prototype of what looked like Samsung’s upcoming mixed-reality headset surfaced online. The device sported a sleek visor design similar to Meta’s Quest 3, but instead of fresnel lenses, used thin and lightweight pancake lenses.
The prototype featured four cameras for tracking, a depth sensor for hand tracking and two cameras that help with colour passthrough. However, Samsung seems to have ditched the prototype as its design was pale compared to the Vision Pro and is instead focusing on an mixed reality headset that will take on Apple’s offering.
The headset will be designed by Samsung and will make use of the company’s OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) technology and pack camera sensors from Samsung LSI. While some rumours indicate that the headset will be powered by the Exynos 2200 chipset, the South Korean company might stick with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 chipset.
According to the Korean publication Joongang, the AR headset, codenamed ‘Infinite (muhan)’ currently has no official name, but a trademark filed by Samsung in the US hints that the product might bear the name ‘Galaxy Glasses’.
The report also claims that Samsung thinks the headset will be a niche product and will initially plans to make only 30,000 units. Samsung will start mass production of the upcoming MR headset in December this year. In the last few years, the tech giant has launched a couple of Extended Reality devices like the Gear VR and Odyssey Plus, but discontinued them since they did not garner much attention.
Rumour has it that the upcoming MR headset will be priced somewhere between Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro (between $1000 and $2000), but things may change in the future as Samsung continues to tweak the headset’s hardware.
