Netflix is reported to be looking at adding “higher-end” also known as AAA titles to its ever-expanding catalogue, and this is where the GTA franchise comes into the picture.
Netflix is said to be in talks with Rockstar Games to license its highly popular Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, OTT giant is reportedly working closely with the studio to introduce “Grand Theft Auto (GTA)” titles within the Netflix app.
Back in 2021, Netflix started to introduce a few mobile games based on the platform’s highly popular shows. According to a report by WSJ, the streaming giant has already spent over $1 billion on mobile video games, which include titles like Ghost Detective, Vikings, Love is Blind, and more.
Netflix is reported to be looking at adding “higher-end” also known as AAA titles to its ever-expanding catalogue, and this is where the GTA franchise comes into the picture. However, it is unclear if Netflix will offer these titles as a part of the subscription, or if one has to make standalone purchases.
Right now it is unclear if Netflix will offer existing GTA games on its platform or look at a mobile spin-off of its highly popular titles. Do note that, to run games like GTA: V, one needs high-performance PCs, which also hints at the fact that Netflix might be considering cloud gaming services.
While Netflix games is yet to find success, the platform has witnessed over 70 million downloads that span over 70 titles. However, in the world of video games, especially considering popular titles like GTA: 5, this number looks miniscule, and the company might consider Rockstar Games’s partnership to further grow the gamer’s user base.
