Instagram will soon show short selfie videos on top of your DMs

Instagram is adding a new twist to its Notes feature. You’ll soon be able to share short, looping videos of yourself on top of your messages.

Instagram is experimenting with a new way to spice up your Notes, a feature that lets you share short textual updates with your followers or friends. Instead of just a profile photo on Notes, you’ll soon see fleeting selfie videos that will loop endlessly on top of your messages.

The demo of the feature shared by Adam Mosseri shows a livelier DMs section with a bunch of tiny videos auto-playing on the top of messages. Whether people find them cute or annoying or distracting, we’ll have to wait and see, but the notes feature seems to be quite popular so get ready to see people doing all sorts of things on your DMs.

Instagram has been obsessed with short videos lately, and they are everywhere on the app. You can see them on stories, as Reels (which are now the default option for posting videos), and now they are invading the DMs too.

Mosseri announced the new feature in a post that said: “This week, we started testing the ability to post selfie videos in Notes. Soon, people will be able to update their default profile photo in notes with a short, looping video. You’ll still be able to share a thought via text to accompany the video. If you start seeing videos in notes, let us know what you think!”

The video selfie feature is still in testing mode and hasn’t reached us yet, but once it does, you should see a camera icon on your profile photo when you post notes. This will let you record videos directly from the notes section and share them with your contacts. You can still add some text to express your thoughts along with the video, though.
