Google to add Mistral AI in its cloud services; Here’s all we know so far

By incorporating Mistral AI, Google Cloud aims to provide developers with a powerful tool for automating code

Google cloud announced the partnership with Mistral AI, in an official blog. The tech giant claimed that it will use Mistral’s Codestral, which is a cod-generation model.

The collaboration of Codestral in Google’s cloud service aims to provide best solutions for cloud and bring innovation for its users. It also plans to promote the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in today’s digitalised world.

According to Reuters, “Today, we’re announcing that Google Cloud is the first hyperscaler to introduce Codestral – Mistral AI’s first open-weight generative AI model explicitly designed for code generation tasks — as a fully-managed service,” the company said in a statement.

By incorporating Mistral AI, Google Cloud aims to provide developers with a powerful tool for automating code writing and improving development efficiency. It is expected that Mistral AI, which is a French AI startup, has gained quiet popularity. Reportedly, it got recognised as a leading European player in the AI sector.

Additionally, with the partnership Google aims to stay ahead in the growing importance of using AI in software development. The collaboration can also keep Google Cloud ahead among all other other Cloud platforms, in the competitive landscape of cloud computing.

What’s the deal

It is believed that the partnership will help improve Google cloud’s structure. Mistral AI has some features that makes it a better  AI model than others. Given below are the key features of Mistral AI:

  • Multi-lingual by design: Mistral AI can support a dozen languages. The lounge list includes English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Dutch and Polish.
  • Proficient in coding: Mistral AI is trained on 80+ coding languages such as Python, Java, C, C++, JavaScript, and Bash. In addition to this the AI model is also trained on more specific languages such as Swift and Fortran.
  • Agent-centric: The AI model has the potential to be best-in-class agentic capabilities with native function calling and JSON outputting.
  • Advanced Reasoning: Finally, Mistral AI has a bunch of State-of-the-art mathematical and reasoning capabilities.

So how can you use Mistral AI in google cloud. Here’s how you can use the AI model in your cloud platform:

  • When you send requests to use Mistral AI’s models, use the following model names. For Mistral Large (2407), you should use mistral-large@2407, for Mistral Nemo, use mistral-nemo@2407 and for Codestral, use codestral@2405.
  • It is recommended by Google that you use the model versions that include a suffix that starts with an @ symbol because of the possible differences between model versions.
