Google Bard will soon get a new feature called ‘Memory’ that lets the AI-powered chatbot offer tailored results based on one’s search history and preferences.
Google Bard, the tech giant’s answer to ChatGPT and Bing Chat, is getting a new feature called ‘Memory’ that enables the AI-powered chatbot to remember key details about you.
First spotted by 9to5Google, the upcoming functionality is aimed at helping Bard users get personalised recommendations. When chatting with Google Bard, users might get similar search results, but the ‘Memory’ toggle changes that by taking into consideration a user’s search history and preferences.
In the image below, you can see that the user told Google Bard specific things to keep in mind like ‘avoid eating meat’ and ‘I have 2 kids’, which was later used by the chatbot when searching for travel recommendations and recipes. This is similar to ChatGPT’s recently introduced ‘custom instructions’ feature.

Google Bard’s Memory page can be quickly accessed from the left side of the menu, where you can add more preferences or delete existing ones. If you don’t want Bard to remember all your details, simply disable the feature on the left side of the screen.
It looks like Google is gradually rolling out the new ‘Memory’ feature, so it might take some time before it is available on your account. Last month, Google introduced a bunch of new features like Bard extensions that let the AI-powered chatbot interact with various Google services like Drive, Gmail and others, and support for more than 40 languages. The tech giant also focused on reducing hallucinations, with Bard results now backed by Google Search results.
