Apple introduced Siri, a personal virtual assistant back in 2011 along with the launch of the iPhone 4S. Since then, Apple has been incorporating and adding several new features and capabilities to Siri, and it is now available across Apple devices such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and even the Apple Watch.
When it comes to personal AI, especially generative AI, OpenAI’s ChatGPT is miles ahead of the competition. This has also made brands like Apple and even Google go back to the drawing board to reinvent their AI services, and Apple seems to be working on adding natural language generation capability to Siri says a report from 9to5Mac.
An AI service with natural language generation can create human-like content. Right now, Apple is said to be testing the more capable Siri on Apple TVs running on tvOS 16.4 beta and is trained to generate jokes and nothing else. In the coming days, we could expect Siri with natural language generation on devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Again, depending on the device, Apple could limit the capabilities of Siri to deliver a seamless experience.
Unlike ChatGPT or GPT-4, which can generate textual content, Apple’s improved Siri will offer improved speech output, which is said to sound more “human” than ever. It is also speculated that Apple could limit this capability to Siri, and it might not be as capable as OpenAI’s GPT-4. As of now, there is no update from Apple regarding the rollout of this feature. However, Apple is likely to showcase the same at its upcoming WWDC 2023 developers conference.
