Unlike the original Vision Pro, which features a Mac-grade Apple Silicon chip, which was showcased at WWDC 2023, the more affordable alternative is said to be based on an iPhone chip.
The production of the Apple Vision Pro is said to be in full swing, and the company is reported to be working on a more affordable alternative. According to the latest report from Bloomberg, the cheaper Vision Pro alternative could cost somewhere between $1,500 to $2,500. To achieve this price point, Apple is said to be considering hardware reductions.
Unlike the original Vision Pro, which features a Mac-grade Apple Silicon chip, which was showcased at WWDC 2023, the more affordable alternative is said to be based on an iPhone chip. Additionally, it is rumoured to lack a feature called EyeSight, which requires an additional display that renders the digital eyes of the users. A recent report analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested otherwise, indicating, that Apple has scrapped plans for the affordable Vision Pro.
Even the primary screen is expected to offer a slightly lower resolution, and Apple is also said to include fewer sensors, which could result in a significant difference in the overall user experience between the two products.
The Apple Vision Pro is set to go on sale in the US in 2024 with a retail price tag of $3,500 or Rs 290,000, making it one of the most expensive consumer VR products. It is also reported that the company has already started developing the 2nd Gen Vision Pro, which is said to be more compact and lighter to deliver an enhanced user experience.
According to earlier reports, due to the complex design of the product, Apple is expected to produce fewer Vision Pros initially and will ramp up production based on demand.
Meta, with its Oculus lineup of VR headsets, currently dominates the consumer market. However, even Meta’s most expensive product, the Meta Quest Pro, currently priced at $999, is significantly cheaper than Apple’s upcoming VR headset.
