Down the line, Apple’s new Vision Pro headset could dominate the VR/AR market.
Apple has just released their highly anticipated Apple Vision Pro, the tech giant’s first foray into spatial computing and virtual reality. Initial projections estimate Apple will sell 350,000 units in the first year alone, an impressive figure for a new product category.
Analysts predict sales will skyrocket 321% in the second year to approximately 1.475 million headsets. By the fifth year post-launch, projections estimate Apple will ship a staggering 12.613 million Vision Pro headsets, representing massive 3,504% growth from 2024.
These sales projections position the Vision Pro to significantly outperform competitors Meta and Sony in the virtual reality space. In the first five years after launch, Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 headset sold 10.4 million units globally. Sony’s PlayStation VR product moved only 6.6 million headsets in its first five years.
Unlike Meta’s $300 Quest 2 and Sony’s $399 PlayStation VR, Apple’s Vision Pro carries a hefty $3,500 price tag. However, Apple’s undisputed reputation for premium quality and easy-to-use products is expected to drive sales despite the high cost of entry.
As Lee Astley of Techopedia noted, “Apple is arguably the most favored technological company in the world for smartphones, tablets and computers. It’s no surprise to see them making their move in the VR headset scene. The numbers that are predicted and projected are truly impressive and perhaps unsurprising. The fact they are likely to move more shipments in the first 5 years post launch than Meta and Sony demonstrates just how much consumers trust their products.”
With its strong brand loyalty and focus on sleek design, Apple seems poised to make a big splash in the VR/AR market with Vision Pro. If early projections are accurate, Apple’s headset could become the new sales leader in the space within just a few years of launch.
