Apple to integrate Goggle Gemini into iPhone, announcement expected at iPhone 16 launch in September

Apple to bring Google Gemini to iPhone

Apple is reportedly working to partner with Google to integrate its Gemini AI chatbot into the iPhone. The formal announcement is pegged for coming fall, which is around September, possibly around the time Apple will unveil the next batch of iPhones, aka the iPhone 16 series. The Google partnership will notably be the second tie-up of its kind for Cupertino, after OpenAI.

Apple is also said to be in talks with Anthropic for a potential AI partnership. Talks with Meta for bringing Meta AI to iPhone meanwhile fizzled quickly since Apple doesn’t trust Meta’s approach to user privacy, a sentiment it has been openly vocal about since a long time now.

Apple to bring Google Gemini to iPhone

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, after partnering with OpenAI Apple might announce another partner for its Apple Intelligence program during the fall of 2024. It is believed that if the rumours come out to he true, everything points to Google Gemini as Apple’s new partner. It looks like if Apple onboards Google Gemini, both iOS and macOS users can get the option to select from three chatbots, the others being Siri and ChatGPT.

This will allow people to pick and choose which models they want to use instead of being forced to use what Apple wants them to use, which may encourage people to use Apple Intelligence regardless of which model they like best.

Mark Gurman explained that Anthropic has been mixed up in these rumours as well. Furthermore, Gurman also suggested that Apple could announce a deal with that company at some point, if not this fall. ‘Meta, though, was quickly rejected because its Llama chatbot just isn’t good enough.’ Mark Gurman said.

The plans ahead

Apple reportedly wants to make AI an avenue for direct profits, not just as a set of features aimed at moving hardware products. In light of the proposed deal, Gurman suggests that the company “could eventually” roll out subscription-only Apple Intelligence features.

It looks like Gemini might have been a part of the iOS 18 chatbot rumours for as long as OpenAI has. Craig Federighi, Apple software boss, even hinted at a Google deal shortly after the WWDC 2024 keynote was over.

Rumours suggest that Apple seems to be in talks for introducing a new paid plan for Apple Intelligence to unlock new features. But it seems like that won’t happen for a while. According to reports the new paid plan won’t happen as Apple Intelligence is only available for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max for now. Reportedly, Apple will still get at least some AI money when it gets its in-app purchases cut off sign-ups to its AI partners’ chatbot subscriptions.
