The safety road ahead

It is expected that the initiative by Apple to launch its maps on the web comes after the competition of ‘digital mapping’ rises. Initially Google Maps had been dominating the ‘digital mapping’ market. Now Apple also aims to take a step ahead in this competition.

According to the official blog, all developers using MapKit JS can also link the Apple Maps on the web. This will enable them to get detailed information of a place and also get driving directions.  Currently, Apple Maps is available on the beta.maps.apple.com. Furthermore, Apple added that Apple Maps on the web is currently available in English, and is compatible with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs.

After facing allegations of illegally using data from YouTube for training LLMs, this initiative by Apple might help it gain back its popularity. A few days earlier, according to Proof news, Apple used data from the Wall Street Journal, NPR and the BBC to train its OpenELM model, released in April just before its WWDC event.
