Amazon recently announced that starting in early 2024, Prime Video will include limited advertisements. The company also highlights that ads on Prime Video will have fewer commercials compared to linear TV and other streaming services. Users can pay an additional $2.99 (approx Rs 250) a month to experience ad-free streaming on Prime Video.
According to a report by The Verge, ads will start to appear in markets like the US, UK, Germany, and Canada starting January 29. The same will be implemented in markets like France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia at a later date. Right now, there is no confirmation if the same also applies to the Indian market.
Prime Video offers movies and TV shows in up to 4K resolution, accessible on smartphones, tablets, laptops, and smart TVs and with a single subscription, one can access Prime Video on four devices concurrently.
Prime Video is one of the benefits of an Amazon Prime subscription, which costs Rs 1,499 in India. Other benefits include free same-day or one-day delivery, Prime Music, Prime Gaming, and Prime Reading. In markets like the US, Amazon also offers additional perks such as unlimited photo storage on Amazon Photos, free grocery delivery, and a one-year Grubhub+ membership.
In India, there is also an Amazon Prime Lite membership, which costs Rs 799 a month with limited benefits. Users can also purchase Prime Video Mobile Edition, priced at Rs 599, allowing access to all content on a smartphone or tablet via the Prime Video app. Additionally, there is the India-exclusive Amazon Mini TV, offering mini-movies and web series for free.
