Galaxy AI will soon be available beyond smartphones, confirms Samsung president.
“Developing the Galaxy S24 series has been the most rewarding period of my career. As an engineer, I have witnessed many examples of incredible innovations, but AI is the most transformative technology of the century,” says Dr TM Roh, President & Head of MX Business, Samsung Electronics in an editorial named Welcome to the Era of Mobile Era.
While talking about AI, Roh states that “Few engineers get the chance to be involved in something with such seismic potential. It brings great change, not only for Samsung and the mobile industry but for all humankind.”
Galaxy AI will soon be available beyond smartphones, across various categories of devices, and the company will make use of artificial intelligence to enhance digital health and to empower users with intelligent health experiences via Galaxy wearable devices. During the Galaxy S24 launch, the brand teased its first smart ring — Galaxy Ring, which is expected to launch in the second half of 2024.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series of smartphones back in January with a host of Galaxy AI features, which include the ability to translate calls in real-time, Photo Assist, wallpaper generator, Circle to Search, Chat Assistant, and more. Samsung recently added AI capabilities to the Galaxy Buds2 and the Buds2 Pro with a software update. It is now confirmed that some of these Galaxy AI experiences will be made available on the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 devices with a future software update.
Galaxy AI features will be available for free of cost until 2025 on eligible devices. Similarly, different terms apply to AI features by third parties.
According to Roh, the integration of AI into phones is a revolution and mobiles will soon become a primary access point for AI. Talking about the Galaxy AI, Roh mentions “Galaxy AI helps people communicate beyond borders, complete everyday tasks easily, and so much more.” and “We’ve thought a lot about how this new and exciting technology can enhance our lives and inspire society’s next steps.”
Samsung has taken a hybrid approach when it comes to AI, while some of the experiences are powered by on-device computing, others depend on the cloud. In his blog, Roh brands Galaxy S24 as the phone of the future with its AI capabilities. He also mentions the fact that “AI models in training are still susceptible to hallucinations,” and the debate of intellectual properties.
