Adobe identified four themes and aesthetic trends that it believes will dominate the visual design landscape in 2024.
Adobe on Friday announced its 2024 Creative Trends Report, which showcased the trending visual styles and themes that the company predicts will make a creative impact throughout next year. The company analysed emerging creative styles, cultural themes, consumer patterns, tech advancements and Stock industry data globally to identify four design aesthetics that will influence photography, videography, social media content, blogs and more next year.
These four themes or aesthetics are “Calming Rhythms,” “Wonder and Joy,” “Dynamic Dimensions,” and “The New Nostalgia.” In today’s design world defined by disruption and a huge demand for creativity and content, consumers are increasingly turning to technology to bring their ideas to life in new ways. Technologies like generative AI give everyone the ability to instantly create designs to their style and taste and easily bring their ideas to life.
Here is what you need to know about the four visual design trends that Adobe says will reign in the coming year.
Calming rhythms
With more and more people gaining awareness about mental and emotional health, soothing and rhythmic visuals that have a calming effect are being used by a growing number of companies in workplaces, retail spaces, outdoor installations, social platforms and apps.
The “Calming Rhythms” that Adobe’s report speaks of can be anything from simple abstract and repetitive backgrounds to slowly shifting and moving forms, accompanies by relaxing sounds and music. This trend is also associated with ASMR content, which usually includes relaxing visuals paired with sonic elements.
Wonder and joy
According to the report, consumers are increasingly responding to visuals that inspire a sense of awe, joy and enchantment as a coping mechanism in today’s challenging macroeconomic environment. “Wonder and Joy” refers to a wide spanning range of brand messaging and experiences that can be anything from being a “kidult” to luxury travel and experiences or AI-generated imaginative environments.
Dynamic Dimensions
“Dynamic Dimensions” is inspired by design elements that blend to create visual experiences, with 3D and 3D elements merging together with video, music and illustrations. It has become more common for different asset types and dimensions to be part of the same world in motion together due to the rist of gaming, AR and VR.
The New Nostalgia
It began as a fascination with the 90s and the styles, design and technology of the time but it has frown into a deep dive into different eras, re-envisioning and reinterpreting vintage lifestyles and settings with AI-generated hyper-realistic renders of past periods.
The New Nostalgia trend mixes consumer appreciation for vintage style with a contemporary interpretation and flair. As more of Gen Z wants to disconnect from their phones, they are turning to cost-friendly tools and hobbies of the past, including digital camera photography that makes them feel more connected and less detached from the real world.
