Tomato prices in Delhi-NCR to be Rs 60/kg from Monday – Know why

The subsidised tomatoes will be available at various locations including Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas, Parliament Street, INA Market, and several areas in Noida, Rohini, and Gurugram.

As tomato prices continue to soar, the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF) will begin selling tomatoes at a subsidised rate of Rs 60/kg in the Delhi-NCR region starting Monday, July 29, 2024.

The initiative aims to provide relief as tomato prices have surged due to supply disruptions caused by recent rains in producing areas. According to data from the Consumer Affairs Ministry, retail tomato prices in Delhi were at Rs 77/kg on July 27, with some areas seeing prices exceeding Rs 80 per kilogram depending on quality and location.

The subsidised tomatoes will be available at various locations including Krishi Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Colony, Hauz Khas, Parliament Street, INA Market, and several areas in Noida, Rohini, and Gurugram. The sale is expected to gradually expand to other locations in the Delhi-NCR region in the coming days.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to stabilise the market and provide financial relief to consumers facing high food prices. The current prices are significantly lower than the Rs 165/kg recorded during the same period last year.

On Saturday, the all-India average price of tomato was Rs 68.98/kg. In Delhi, the prices of tomato stood at Rs 77/kg.
