Introducing Gemini 1.5 Flash

Google had initially introduced Gemini 1.5 during the  Google I/O 2024. With this update Google aims to provide users with an easy to use large language model (LLMs). It is believed that with Gemini 1.5 Flash Google aims to compete against OpenAI’s GPT-4o mini.

“With the upgrade to 1.5 Flash, you’ll see across-the-board improvements in quality and latency, with especially noticeable improvements in reasoning and image understanding,” Amar Subramanya, VP of engineering, Gemini, explained in a blog post.In addition to this, Gemini 1.5 Flash can also provide access to over 40 languages including English.

Furthermore, in addition to this Google highlighted that it aims to reduce ‘AI-hallucinations’. But what does the term mean and what impact does it have? ‘AI hallucinations’ can create mishap by providing wrong answers to your questions. In order to avoid this Gemini 1.5 will be providing citations to all of its responses.

Other updates

According to the official blog, Subramanya said that you will soon be able to upload files to the free version of its Gemini AI chatbot. This feature was previously possible only in the paid version. Additionally, the uploading files can be done to support contextual prompts. For example  it’s possible to upload an image and ask the model questions about it, Google explained.

Google also announced that it will be rolling out Gemini in Google Messages to the European Economic Area (EEA), UK and Switzerland. With this you can chat in newly added languages such as French, Polish and Spanish. So how can you access the feature? Here’s how you can:
