OnePlus’s first foldable jointly developed by Oppo and OnePlus: Pete Lau

OnePlus Open will deliver the same fast and smooth experience as previous smartphones.

OnePlus’s co-founder, Pete Lau, who is also the Chief Product Officer of Oppo, has just confirmed that the company’s first foldable phone is jointly developed by OnePlus and Oppo. A report from The Verge also highlights that these brands will launch the same foldable with a different brand name and the upcoming Oppo Find N3 is speculated to be limited to China.

During an interaction with Lewis George Hilsenteger on the Unbox Therapy YouTube channel, Pete confirmed that OnePlus will soon unveil its first foldable device. He also highlighted that the upcoming OnePlus foldable, likely to be called the OnePlus Open, features a new hinge system that is lighter yet stronger and is also confirmed to be made with fewer components when compared to the Oppo Find N2.

According to Pete, the OnePlus Open will deliver the same fast and smooth experience as previous smartphones, and the device will also include the brand’s iconic alert slider. The OnePlus Open is also said to be a result of creative collaboration between Oppo and OnePlus. However, it is also confirmed that OnePlus currently has no plans to launch a flip-style foldable, similar to the Oppo Find N2 Flip, and will only focus on large-screen foldable smartphones.

The OnePlus Open is likely to feature a circular camera island with Hasselblad tuning. In fact, the possible OnePlus Open was recently spotted in the hands of Indian celebrity Anushka Sharma, hinting at an imminent launch in the country.

According to a report by GSMArena, the OnePlus Open will feature a 7.82-inch primary foldable display and a 6.31-inch cover display with minimal crease and almost zero hinge gap, as highlighted in Unbox Therapy’s video. The smartphone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, with up to 18 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage.
