The new AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C are powered by the H2 chip, which supports a 5GHz wireless frequency that enables lossless audio transmission.
At WWDC, Apple announced its first mixed reality headset, the VisionPro, and also highlighted how users can experience lossless spatial audio using AirPods Pro 2. Now, the company has confirmed that the new lossless audio feature on the VisionPro is only available with the newly launched AirPods Pro 2 that has a USB-C port.
Brian Tong, Apple’s Vice President of Sensing and Connectivity, has now explained the reason behind this in a video interaction with YouTuber Ron Huang.
According to Brian, the new AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C (review) are powered by the H2 chip, which supports a 5GHz wireless frequency, while the original AirPods Pro 2 with the H1 chip is limited to 2.5GHz. The higher wireless bandwidth on the AirPods Pro 2 with the new chip allows Apple to enable lossless audio support on the newer model.
The AirPods Pro 2 with lighting will also be compatible with the Vision Pro. However, the lossless audio will just be limited to the newer mode.
This also confirms that the new AirPods Pro with USB-C are capable of 5GHz connectivity, which, according to Brian, will facilitate seamless connection with the VisionPro to deliver high-resolution audio with minimal interference. Furthermore, the upcoming VisionPro also features an H2 chip that enhances connectivity between various Apple ecosystem products.
Apple is set to launch the VisionPro in early 2024, initially in select markets such as the US. Priced at $3,500, the Apple VisionPro will be one of the most expensive consumer-centric VR headsets on the market.
