The recently announced Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset will make its debut with the upcoming Redmi Note 13 Pro, which will be launched in China on September 21.
Qualcomm recently announced a new mid-range SoC – the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Built on 4nm process node, the new chip can reach peak speeds of 2.4GHz and supports Quick Charge 4+, which the company claims can charge a device from 0 to 50 per cent in just five minutes.
The octacore SoC has 4 cores that can reach speeds of up to 2.4GHz whereas the other 4 power efficient cores are clocked at 1.95GHz. While the company is yet to share details about the GPU, the new SoC supports FHD+ resolution, refresh rate up to 144Hz and comes with Variable Rate Shading.
As for the camera, the SoC gets Qualcomm’s Spectra 12-bit ISP and the ability to record video in 4K HDR at 30fps. It also supports capturing images from 3 cameras at once and an AI De-Noising algorithm trained using a neural network to remove noise in low-light pictures and 200MP camera sensors.
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 might be a viable alternative for phone manufacturers who don’t want to go with the Snapdragon 8 series SoCs. But despite having the ‘s’ suffix, the new chipset may offer less performance than the company’s own Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.
