Elon Musk has confirmed that Twitter gets encrypted direct messaging.
Elon Musk has confirmed that the micro-blogging platform Twitter finally has encrypted direct messages. With this, direct messages on Twitter are now more secure than ever and it further enhances user privacy on the platform. However, the Twitter boss himself has said not to trust it yet.
End-to-end encryption is a fairly common protocol adopted by instant messaging services and social media platforms to ensure user privacy. When a message is encrypted, only the receiver can read the message, and even the platform moderators won’t be able to access it.
Considering Elon Musk’s tweet, it looks like the company is still working on this feature and it might still have some loopholes, which are expected to be rectified in the coming days.
Early version of encrypted direct messages just launched.
Try it, but don’t trust it yet.

How does end-to-end encryption work?
When a user sends a message, the platform, in this case, Twitter, encrypts it, which simply means the contents of the text are scrambled so that only the receiver can access the original content using a unique digital key. This ensures that nobody in the system will be able to read the actual message, and not even Elon Musk will be able to access someone’s Twitter DM if it’s actually end-to-end encrypted.
Platforms like Instagram offer an option for users to enable or disable end-to-end encrypted messages. Right now, it is still unclear if Twitter will have a similar option. However, right now end-to-end encryption seems to be enabled by default, and we will share more updates regarding the same as and when available.
