I wanted a new challenge: New ATK Mohun Bagan signing Florentin Pogba talks about surprise transfer to ISL

New championship with a new club is exciting, says Florentin Pogba after joining ATK Mohun Bagan

Indian Super League franchise ATK Mohun Bagan made their second international signing this season, picking up Paul Pogba’s brother Florentin Pogba. While Florentin is not as famous as the former Manchester United star, the 31 year old is widely travelled across Europe and America. The star player for the season expressed that he is looking forward to being a part of the ATK Mohun Bagan set-up and couldn’t wait to play in front of a packed Salt Lake stadium.

“I wanted a new challenge. Coming to India, to discover a new country, new championship, new clubs and new fans, I think it’s such a good challenge for me. Above all, to be part of this big club’s history. To be honest, I’m really happy and proud to be part of ATK Mohun Bagan, one of the biggest clubs in the country,” Pogba was quoted as saying by ISL website.

“Playing in different leagues (France, USA, Turkey) helps each player to grow, and improve his game but also helps him understand his teammates and competitors better,” he added.

“Fans are the heart and soul of a club. With them, we go further. I have always loved playing with the fervour of full stadium. Can’t wait to join the team and play games in Kolkata to live and feel that special atmosphere,” said the defender.

“I’m really happy to become a Mariner and I can promise you that I’ll do my best to win trophies together. Looking forward to meeting you really soon in Kolkata,” he added.

ATK have been on a signing spree filling key positions of wingers, right backs and centre backs as they hope to get back to winning ways after their trophy-less campaign in the last outing. The likes of Roy Krishna, Dvid Williams, Prabir Das have left the club forcing the team to fill a lot of holes ahead of the season. ATK though have done well by signing the likes of Ashish Rai and Ashique Kuruniyan.
