Elon Musk said that he will vote for Republicans and can “no longer support” Democrats, the Tesla founder said on Wednesday.
The big picture: Musk said that he previously voted Democrat “because they were (mostly) the kindness party.”
- “They have become the party of division & hate,” Musk continued.
Flashback: Three weeks ago, Musk said that Twitter “must be politically neutral” to deserve the public trust.
- “Which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally,” Musk said.
Between the lines: Musk announced last month that he is in the process of buying Twitter. His bid launched a debate over the most American of ideas — free speech — and private companies’ rights and obligations to sort the boundaries between disinformation and censorship.
- Several Republicans previously hailed Musk as a hero and Twitter as the problem.
