Vetrimaran is a leading director in Tamil cinema.
His films Pollathavan, Aadukalam, Visaranai, Vada Chennai and Asuran are celebrated in Tamil cinema.
In this context, a discussion on cinema was held at the International Film Festival of Kerala 2022 in the state of Kerala. Vetrimaran was also present along with Malayalam directors Lijo Joseph Pellisherry, Kamal and Sibi Malayil.
Vetrimaran said, “New films in Tamil cinema today present the principles of Dravidian politics and reinforce that principle. Social realities and political contexts give themes to such films.”
He added, “I was not ready to express myself in any other medium. So, I started writing scripts. Later, I realized that I could try my craft in making films,” he said. “It was only after the release of VIsaranai that I got confidence in my craft, “he said.
Lijo Jose Pellisherry said that unlike the time when movies were only shown in theaters, OTT platforms give viewers the freedom to choose what they want to see. He added, “Movies should be made available everywhere so that viewers can decide where to watch the big screen or through other medium.”
