Women’s World Cup, INDW vs WIW: Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur Shine With Sensational Centuries

Women’s World Cup: India batter Smriti Mandhana on Saturday scored her fifth ODI century during the ongoing Women’s World Cup match against West Indies at the Seddon Park in Hamilton

With the team reeling at 78 for three at one stage, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur scored centuries to put India in command against West Indies in their ongoing Women’s World Cup match at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. Smriti Mandhana scored her fifth ODI century, smashing 123 off 118 balls, including 12 boundaries and two sixes. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet scored her fourth ODI century, scoring 109 off 106 balls. The pair added 184 runs for the fourth wicket before the former was dismissed by Shamilia Connell in the 43rd over.

Harmanpreet was then dismissed by Aaliyah Alleyne in the penultimate over of the Indian innings.

West Indies did manage to slow down the run-rate with a few late wickets but couldn’t stop India from crossing the 300-run mark.

Apart from Mandhana and Harmanpreet, Yastika Bhatia also scored a fine 21-ball 31.

For the West Indies, Anisa Mohammed took two wickets while Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews, Alleyne, Connell also picked up a wicket each.

West Indies will have to chase a target of 318 and the focus will be on the Indian bowlers to stop them from registering their third win of the ongoing tournament.

Earlier, India had won the toss and skipper Mithali Raj elected to bat.

Mithali Raj also scripted a massive record on Saturday as she went past former Australia skipper Belinda Clarke for most appearances as captain at the Women’s World Cups.

Clarke had captained Australia in 23 matches.
